Today's show is above surviving and then thriving from Life's many passages. Everyone can relate to how we change with the passage of time. It's not about the various events that cause the change - it is how we adapt to the change.
Small business owners are particularly susceptible to change. A disastrous start to a new year can be instantly salvaged by one big order or one big new client. Surviving as an entrepreneur means loving extreme roller coaster rides; especially those with steep climbs followed by stomach-wrenching dives.
Today's guest is Sharon Merchant who has seen more than her share of life's passages over the past several decades. She is a 5th generation Floridian something that is quite rare in this state of mostly migrants from the other 49 states. She graduated form Florida State with a degree in International Affairs and launched her career as a Legislative Assistant in the Florida House of Representatives. Within a few years she won election to Palm Beach County District 83 Florida House seat, and spent 8 years in the legislature.
Now 16 years later Sharon is the CEO of Merchant Strategy which provides government relations and public involvement services to local governments and small business owners. In her extra hours, she is the Vice President of the family business Equipment Rental Service.
